There are different types of infractions that may be given to an account based on the type of rule breaking that occurs.
Warnings: Warnings exist to let you know that you have broken a rule. Generally, this is reserved for first offenses and mild rule breaking. Please take these seriously! If you continue to break the rules after receiving warnings, this could result in something more serious happening.
Suspensions: Suspensions can occur if you receive multiple warnings but continue to break the rules. You won't be able to log into your Neopets account while you are suspended. Your first suspension will last 24 hours and increase by 24 hour increments for each additional suspension received.
Temporarily Silencings: If an account has received chat-related warnings, it may be temporarily silenced. A silenced user will not be able to post on the message boards, guild boards, send neomails or otherwise communicate with other users. The first temporarily silence will last 24 hours and increase by 24 hour increments for each additional silence received. Silenced users can still log into Neopets but will not be able to communicate with others until they are no longer silenced.
Permanently Silenced: In extreme circumstances we may permanently silence an account if the situation is warranted.
