Watch out for messages in the Combat Log during the fight. Some items are one-use, such as snowballs or Novas. Also, some items may break a certain percentage of the time, such as a Magic Branch (which will break one out of thirty times used). If your item isn’t there at the end of a battle, then it is most probably one of these items.
