Yes! It will add +1 to your avatar count. Joining a new team in subsequent years will NOT add to your avatar count, however; the avatar you choose one year will swap to the team you join in the next year, so choosing an Altador Cup team will only ever alter your avatar count by that initial +1 for joining your first team.
